Traveling to Okinawa? Must Visit South Indian Dining Malayalam

While traveling in Okinawa, I was looking for a change from American and Japanese food, so I started searching for a good curry restaurant around Naha city. That's when I found South Indian Dining Malayalam through the GoCurry website!

Located near Naha International Street, this restaurant offers a rare South Indian dining experience, with a menu that only features vegan options. The interior is really cool, giving off a vibe of Kerala, an Indian state. By the way, "Malayalam" is the language spoken in Kerala.

The restaurant has a small seating capacity of about 10 people, but the cozy atmosphere is perfect. Surprisingly, the entire restaurant is run by just one person, who happens to be Japanese. The menu offers just one main option—South Indian meals, with a choice of 3 or 4 curries. I went for the 4 curry option, which cost 2,300 yen. It took about 15 minutes for the food to arrive, but it was totally worth the wait!

The South Indian meal was hearty and authentic, very close to the actual taste of Kerala. Everything was delicious, but my favorite was the Rasam—one of the best I’ve had in Japan. After a week without Indian food, I felt completely satisfied. After finishing the meal, I noticed "Soy Chai" on the menu and got curious. I decided to try it for 200 yen. The Soy Chai at Malayalam was incredible—completely vegan and absolutely recommended if you're in Okinawa.

We had a great time at Malayalam and were so glad to have found a vegan South Indian restaurant in Okinawa. It's a must-visit if you're a vegan in Okinawa!
